Phlebotmy Technician

A phlebotomist or Phlebotomy Technician is a medical professional who is trained to perform blood draws on children and adults. They collect and prepare blood for testing so it can be analyzed in a medical laboratory. They also collect blood for donation and perform blood transfusions.

The Phlebotomy program at SS Cosmas and Damian College can be completed in less than 6 months. With a blended theory, hands-on, and clinical placement approach to learning, the training is designed to prepare students for the ever-changing field of phlebotomy. Phlebotomists serve a more vital role than ever before in the care of patients, thanks to the increasing demand to provide patient samples for diagnostic testing.

As a student of our program, you will develop venipuncture skills along with the critical thinking and communication skills required to provide essential patient samples used to diagnose diseases and monitor patients’ progress. At the end of this program, students will be awarded a Certified Phlebotomy Technician level 1 (CPT1) certification, this means that you are certified to perform skin puncture and venipuncture blood collection. Students would also be enrolled to sit for the American Society of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP) phlebotomy technician qualifying examination; successful candidates would be licensed to work as phlebotomists in the USA and Canada.

We welcome students who are enthusiastic about providing focused patient care and have a strong personal work ethic conducive to achieving quality samples for patient testing.
